Last Hurrah!

Give years after Nessa got down on bended knee and asked Smithy to marry her, Gavin & Stacey fans will finally find out his answer as the BAFTA-winning British sitcom returns for a long-awaited finale special, airing on Boxing Day.

Debuting in May 2007, the series may have only run for three seasons, with a subsequent 2019 Christmas special, but it became an instant cultural phenomenon. Written, created and executive produced by and featuring James Corden and Ruth Jones in the supporting roles of Smithy and Nessa, the series centred around Essex lad Gavin (Mathew Horne) and sweet Welsh girl Stacey (Joanna Page) from Barry.

As the couple embarked on a long-distance relationship and then marriage, they were supported and at times hampered by their loved ones – including Gavin’s posh parents, Mick (Larry Lamb) and Pam (Alison Steadman); Stacey’s widowed mum, Gwen (Melanie Walters), and eccentric uncle, Bryn (Rob Brydon); and most notably, their best pals, Smithy and Nessa, whose love-hate feelings for one another often took centrestage.
