This May will mark two decades since the finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer aired, and while the show’s star Sarah Michelle Gellar remains proud of the popular series, she does have one gripe about mentioning the milestone. “People love to remind me that it [has been] 20 years,” Gellar, 45, told TV host Graham Norton of the supernatural show, which ran for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003. “I love that people still reference it, but I don’t need the actual date and passage of time so people realise how old I am!”
Although never far from the cultural zeitgeist (#buffy has nearly 450 million views on TikTok), Gellar has been relatively quiet on the professional front in recent years.
Now, however, she is getting back to work. Following her small role in Netflix’s teen comedy Do Revenge, which was a nod to her role in 1999’s Cruel Intentions, she’s back on a Buffy-like grind scene in the Paramount+ supernatural series, Wolf Pack.
“To come back, to get projects made, you have to pay homage to what you’re known for,” she explained in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “If I do things that speak to the fan base, which I think these will, and gather some new people along the way, maybe I branch out again. It’s not a next act for me, but it’s certainly a new chapter.”
