Sheridan and Courtney - OUR WICKED FRIENDSHIP

The close friendship between their characters in the smash-hit musical Wicked is a complicated one, but thankfully for Courtney Monsma and Sheridan Adams, theirs is a lot simpler. Born out of mutual admiration and forged during the past 12 months since they landed the coveted stage roles of Glinda and Elphaba, the pair have not only become close friends but like each other’s family.

“My first impression of Sheridan was from seeing one of her singing videos online and thinking what a beautiful voice she had,” Monsma shares with WHO from backstage at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre. “I was a fan from afar.” Adams had literally been watching from the wings, working as an usher during the season of the musical Frozen in which Monsma starred as Princess Anna. “It was a masterclass – I looked up to Courtney,” she explains.

Once cast in their roles in early 2023 and as they began the six weeks of rehearsals, they knew that their relationship would be something special. “You just know,” explains Monsma. “The first day we spent together was for a shoot and we were so comfortable with each other being vulnerable – to express we were tired that day and be normal and not put on a face. That’s been the foundation of our friendship.”
