After more than a decade as the UK's reigning king and queen of breakfast TV, Holly Willoughby has emerged as the sole survivor of ITV’s This Morning after sidekick Phillip Schofield was given the boot after the relationship of the once-close pair became “unworkable”.

“I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect,” the veteran star, 61, who had been at the helm of the show for 21 years, said in a statement on May 20.
