As You Like It
A limited, handcrafted collection of Shakespeare's The Complete Plays has been created to mark the 400th anniversary of The First Folio. Limited to 1,000 sets and priced at £1,000 each, The Complete Plays will be published by The Folio Society (020 7400 4200, foliosociety.com) in three volumes - comedies, histories and tragedies - on 26 September 2023. The stunning silk and linen-woven bindings have been created using Elizabethan weaving techniques by Stephen Walters & Sons, the Suffolk-based weavers who created Queen Camilla's Coronation robes. Hand-bound by Smith Settle of Leeds, the collection includes introductions by Dame Judi Dench and former RAC artistic director Gregory Doran, and each is hand-numbered and signed by artist and illustrator Neil Packer whose hand-drawn designs for the book bindings are inspired by 17th-century blackwork embroidery, while his illustrations distil each play into a single image.
