THEN & NOW
ClubX|February 2023
OVER THE YEARS, THERE HAVE BEEN MANY ON-SCREEN ROMANCES WE JUST CAN'T FORGET. WE'VE PUT TOGETHER OUR TOP LIST OF SOULMATES WHO HAD UNDENIABLE CHEMISTRY...
THEN & NOW

1 LEONARDO DICAPRIO AND KATE WINSLET

Leo and Kate gave us one of the greatest romantic dramas in film history, in director James Cameron's epic Titanic (1997). They had the ultimate young lovers relationship, falling head-over-heels, till death us do part, in a short period of time. Their love story was Romeo and Juliet-esque, a case of 'opposites attract'. The two stars had a long-awaited on-screen reunion a decade later, in Revolutionary Road (2008), where they portray a more mature married couple in a no less tragic relationship. Outside of the film sets, the two have maintained a great friendship, always showing support for each other's projects and accolades.

2 JULIA ROBERTS AND RICHARD GERE

When thinking of iconic on-screen romances, Julia and Richard are one of the first couples that come to mind. The classic Pretty Woman (1990) follows Vivian Ward (Roberts), an escort, who is hired by wealthy businessman Edward Lewis (Gere) to attend functions with him. It's the archetypal poor-girl-richman fantasy, in which they start out as 'business partners', then become friends and, later, lovers. In their next project together, Runaway Bride (1999), Roberts and Gere reunite, but their relationship is more hostile at first- and seems doomed from the start, as Julia's character has infamously ditched several beaus at the altar.
