DROUPADI MURMU
PRESIDENT OF INDIA
It is fitting that the first citizen of India be a woman, and a woman who is such an inspiration. Sworn in as the country's second woman and first Dalit president in 2022, Droupadi Murmu has long been working towards empowering the marginalised and disadvantaged sections of society.
An advocate for equality from her school days, she has blazed her way to the spotlight - from being the first girl in her village to go to college to winning the prestigious Nilakantha Award as Best Legislator in the Odisha Assembly. The latest feather in her cap is an Honorary Doctorate in Political Science by Scientific and Technological Hub, Martyr Ihaddaden Abdelhafid University of Algeria, in recognition of her advocacy of science and knowledge for all social groups in India.
