"It's very difficult for someone my age to say that I'm relevant because the things that we grew up with are obsolete today!" says Twinkle Khanna. Her Instagram account, however, is testimony to the fact that she is, in fact, as relevant as she is witty. Her secret? Chatting with her children (21 and 12) and their friends enables her to learn things. She learned the word 'heteronormative' from her son, and it took her a little while to figure that out, “because that is the world we live in.” The most important enabler, however, is the nerd within her, who loves learning things! “I don’t think that I am relevant,” she reveals. “I am just someone who’s very curious about the world, and that keeps me going.”
I am catching up with the author on her fourth book, Welcome To Paradise (Juggernaut), just short of her fiftieth birthday. The book, a collection of five stories, has created waves upon release, much expected from a best-selling author such as her. The minute Twinkle says, “I love editing, I find it very therapeutic,” my lips curl upwards. Any person who works in publishing will know why. Why is she good at it? Because she has no love lost for words that need to be chopped off. And she does not waste anything, “Not in life, not in books.” She simply tucks it away in her stash of notes and lets the show at hand go on!
