NEW DRAMA
Lee
Fri, 11.50am & 8pm, Sky Premiere
When Kate Winslet bought an antique table a few years ago, she was intrigued to learn that it had once belonged to esteemed American war photographer Lee Miller, and the Oscar-winning star became determined to learn more about the former model who became one of the most-influential war correspondents of our time.
'I wondered why nobody had ever made a film about Lee, recalls Winslet, 49. 'She came from a flamboyant world, and fought her way to the front line to photograph the atrocities of the Nazi regime. She was a cracked, flawed woman who went to war. That was the story I wanted to tell.'
This week, Winslet brings the story of Lee's remarkable life to Sky Premiere in compelling biopic Lee, which begins with Lee as an older woman, being interviewed by her son Tony (Josh O'Connor), before the action flashes back to the pre-war period when Lee spent time with her circle of artistic friends in the south of France.
