AS FAR as fairytale favourites go, it’s right up there with the best of them: a princess falls in love with a commoner and, although they come from different backgrounds, their love conquers all and leads to their happily-ever-after.
But for Princess Iman bint Abdullah of Jordan this was no storybook cliché. The 26-year-old daughter of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania married financier Jameel Alexander Thermiótis (28) in a glamorous event that was televised for all of Jordan’s people to see.
Rania was delighted for her eldest daughter. “Iman, I pray this next chapter in your life brings you as much joy, love and laughter as you’ve brought us over the years. Congratulations to the bride and groom!” she said.
The princess is the first of the king and queen’s children to get married and the close-knit ruling Hashemite family were all in attendance for the nuptials at the spectacular Beit Al Urdun Palace in the country’s capital, Amman.
This included Iman’s younger siblings, Princess Salma (22) and Prince Hashem (18).
Her older brother, Crown Prince Hussein (28), escorted his sister through the palace gardens and down the aisle and shared a heartfelt post on Instagram to celebrate her special day.
“Grateful for all the precious memories we share and overjoyed to see you celebrate your wedding today,” he wrote.
“I wish you, dear Iman and Jameel, a lifetime of blessings and happiness together.”
