JORDAN'S JOY

THE country hadn’t experienced anything like it in the three decades since their king and queen married – it was wedding fever on a whole different level, an entire nation coming together to celebrate the union of two young people.

Days before the ceremony, people put up banners and billboards across the Jordanian capital, Amman, expressing their love and support, and the downtown branch of McDonald’s unfurled a three-storey banner announcing the fast-food chain was “rejoicing in Hussein”.

The glittering wedding day was accompanied by a two-day national holiday and the ceremony had its own official logo and hashtag, #Celebrating-AlHussein.

'I'LL NEVER FORGET HOW HAPPY HIS MAJESTY AND I WERE WHEN AL HUSSEIN TOLD US HE WANTED TO MARRY RAJWA'

Crown Prince Hussein (28), eldest son of Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Queen Rania, was marrying his Saudi Arabian sweetheart, Rajwa Al Saif (29), and everyone wanted to share in the happiness.

Hussein became crown prince of Jordan at the age of 15 after King Abdullah removed the title from his half-brother, Hamzah bin Hussein, in 2004.

The government accused Hamzah and his associates of sedition, claiming he was plotting with foreign entities to destabilise the kingdom.

Hussein, handsome with a charming dimpled smile, is a modern prince with more than four million Instagram followers.

He has a BA in international history from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and later graduated from England’s Sandhurst military academy.
