EASTER may have come and gone, but three kids are still on the hunt in this garden, peering into bushes, lifting pots, inspecting trees and tiptoeing through flowerbeds.
The chocolate eggs have long been devoured, but there are still plenty of treasures out here and this trio is determined to find them.
“I have one!” eight-year-old Izak yells, holding up his prize: a snail plucked mid-journey down a path in the corner of the garden.
It’s enough to make mom Rika Lowe (35) roll her eyes. Izak and his sisters, Abigail (12) and Khloe (10), have a thing for snails, she says.
“I don’t know where their obsession comes from, but they love collecting them. They have bowls of them in the house and the things will crawl out and creep up the walls.”
The kids are a busy bunch, riding their bikes in the street near their home in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, racing around the park or begging their mom for a turn to play on her phone – just like so many other kids their age.
But one thing sets them apart from most children: all three have dwarfism like their father, Stephen (45).
