FIGHTING THE AGEING PROCESS IS NOT NEW FOR WOMEN. BUT WHILE THE MAIN WARRIORS USED TO BE THOSE IN THEIR 40S AND 50S, NOW THE BATTLELINES ARE SHIFTING AS WOMEN IN THEIR 20S OPT FOR PREEMPTIVE INJECTABLES. BUT DOES STARTING EARLY WORK OR IS ITJUST A CASE OF JUMPING THE GUN?

At the age of 25, when the first whisper of wrinkles began to form, Kelly Tan scheduled her second Botox appointment. There were fine lines that had started to appear on her forehead, and she wanted a preemptive measure before those lines turned into deeper folds.

“I wanted to get it done ASAP. And it felt like magic, when I looked at myself in the mirror and raised my eyebrows and there were no wrinkles at all. In a way, it was empowering, and I felt way more confident, but I also felt grateful that there are solutions like these that can be done to the parts of myself that I dislike,” says the full-time content creator.

Tan’s first shot of Botox was aimed at correcting her jaw disorder (TMJ), which was causing her to grind her teeth at night. And indeed the procedure did help her stop grinding her teeth, in addition to giving her a slimmer jawline and improved facial symmetry. Since then, she’s also had forehead Botox, nose threads, and a combination of Sylfirm X — a micro-needling device that enables radiofrequency energy to penetrate the skin to reduce fine lines, minimise pores, and treat acne scarring — and Rejuran Healer to boost the skin’s elasticity and slow ageing.

“I’m doing all these because I’m 25 now, and I find my skin a little more dull. I’ve also lost some weight, so the Rejuran shots were really helpful in giving me that youthful glow and lifting effect.”
