I don't need to point this out. Inflation has been making headlines for months. According to the pundits, fuel prices have accounted for about 90 percent of the inflationary pressure. For those of us who spend time on the water, we understand this all too well. The ka-ching of the fuel pump on the dock gets your attention. Some simply grit their teeth and open their wallets. Others are a little more careful with their time on the water. Is there anything that we as a user group can support to help counter this? I happen to believe there is.
Alternative and renewable energy sources are a good start. The current plan to generate 30 gigawatts of offshore wind energy by 2030 will power 10 million households. That will put less demand on fossil fuels, which should mean lower fuel costs in the future. There should also be some beneficial trends in ocean acidification and warming. That will help anyone with a fishing boat.
