While many of us will be taking a more relaxed approach to our diet and fitness regimes as we head into the festive season, Carol Vorderman is putting her foot on the pedal to get into her best shape yet.
Rather than indulging in treats and staying indoors, the TV presenter, 63, is focusing on becoming more active. She’d previously had to put exercise on the back burner due to work demands, which left her feeling burned out.
‘I’ve been working seven-day weeks and I just hit burnout,’ she said. ‘I had some tests and thankfully there are no health issues as such, it’s just utter exhaustion. I’d been running on fumes since last Christmas, so I’m cutting back to five-day weeks.’ She added, ‘I’m glad that it happened, in a way, because it turned out it wasn’t anything serious. It was quite nice to have the MOT to say I’m fine. It doesn’t matter what age you are, you can experience burnout.’
Fitness goals
As she reduces her work hours, recently quitting her Sunday LBC radio show, Carol plans to spend the next few months getting back into a routine and making time for the gym and hiking. ‘I haven’t been [for a hike] for about 18 months and although I’m a bit of a gym bunny, I haven’t been for nearly a year. I can’t live that life any more – I’ve got to get back in the gym because I enjoy it, it gives me a buzz. And I want to get out in the mountains again,’ she explained.
