Recently I read the article by Hansa Maa, "Surrender and be free" in the July edition of this journal. She emphasizes, 'you should be able to manage your emotions, don't let them manage you'. The simplicity of the article touched my heart. Sometimes we are so caught up with daily routines and challenges that we start worrying excessively and needlessly. We are overwhelmed by situations, dwell on them and are fully consumed by them.
I was experiencing something similar when my 82-year-old mother had a heart attack last month. By God's grace, she survived but had to undergo treatment for fluid retention in the hospital. Seeing her in pain, my brother and I were in tears and felt helpless. The agony of draining out the fluid from her body over the course of a week drained us too, emotionally.
