ON TREND with green

Bold and invigorating, green is a strong contender to overthrow grey as the hot colour in your home.

ON TREND with green

The colour green has remained a firm favourite in both décor and fashion. We've seen it in every room - from kitchen cupboards and bespoke bathroom tiles to hand-painted furniture and fearless feature walls. Whether you're drawn to soft sage, minty hues or bolder and brighter shades, it seems green is here to stay.

According to interior designer Lara Myerson of Lara Myerson Designs in Cape Town, green is the colour of renewal and growth.

"Many of my clients like grey combined with naturals, but the minute I add some greenery or green accents, their spaces really come alive," says Lara. "There's so much you can do with greenery and the trends these days range from potting rooms and sculptural arrangements to vertical gardens and hanging plants - all of which invigorate a space."

During the recent renovation of her family holiday home in Plettenberg Bay on the Garden Route, Lara reaffirmed that green isn't just a fad; in fact, it can provide an elegant and timeless palette in any home.

"Don't be afraid to experiment with green in case it goes out of fashion - if you love this colour, forget about the trends," advises Lara. "Good taste is what tastes good to you!"

A kitchen update

Lara knew her holiday home makeover offered the perfect opportunity to create her own dream kitchen. "I wanted something different from what I usually do for clients in the city, which typically involves a slick grey aesthetic," says Lara. "And while my family gets very nervous if I stand behind the stove, the kitchen is still my favourite space to design."

Lara draws inspiration from companies such as deVOL Kitchens in the UK, well-known for combining old and new with an eclectic and practical appeal.
