The collapse at the end of last year of Made.com really brought home to me two irrefutable truths: first, it's extremely hard to run a business. And second, I really don't shop like the millennials.

When it was announced that Made.com had gone into administration, the UK press was packed with articles by thirtysomethings wailing about the death of their favourite retailer. It was, one writer claimed, the reason for the millennial obsession with interiors'. Another one credited it with teaching her what good taste was. Whole flats across the land, it turns out, were designed by Made.com if you were born after, say, 1986.
