ON THE ROAD

”THE ROAD GOES EVER ON AND ON, down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, and I must follow if I can.”

This is J. R. R. Tolkien speaking through the character of Bilbo Baggins in The Fellowship of the Ring. Whether in their textual or filmic context, these lines superlatively convey the scale and sweep of a life-defining journey that transforms those who undertake it for the better in hard-won, even monumental ways.

The metonymic power in depicting the literal and existential expansiveness of such a journey is formidable and culturally resonant, and, as Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore’s The Bar at 15 Stamford (henceforth referred to as The Bar), shows, path-lightingly captivating and entrancingly potent.

When its presiding duo of beverage manager Kavish Hurrydoss and Csizmadia—both of whom have worked at some of the most prestigious and forward-thinking hospitality and F&B juggernauts, including Soneva Fushi, Potato Head, the Pink Pony Club, and Sips Drinkery House—set to work on The Bar’s new evolution, after transitioning from its prior incarnation as a fount of rum, the Pan-American Highway loomed large and bright before them as a rewarding and inspiring canvas.
