WHEN APPROACHED BY THE MUSÉE PICASSO in Paris to artistic direct the new immersive exhibition dedicated to the legendary artist, Paul Smith enthusiastically took up the challenge. While the fashion designer is far too humble to make comparisons, it is impossible to not see parallels between Picasso and Smith. For starters, they share a similar childlike approach to creativity – the same vision Smith took on when directing the exhibition.
“The Musée Picasso generously gave me carte blanche to offer a new interpretation,” Smith explains. “It’s a fantastic and very humbling opportunity. There is a humour and playfulness throughout while remaining deferential to Picasso’s extraordinary life and legacy.”
