IF YOU THOUGHT physical stores were moving towards extinction, think again. Sure, online shopping is convenient, but nothing beats a hands-on experience in a physical store. Whether it's the texture of the fabric or the solid heft of a leather bag, these stores offer a sensory and personalized experience that no screen or app can replicate. It's more than just shopping-it's about immersing yourself in a universe, unearthing hidden gems, and connecting with a community. Here are some of 2024's must-visit new shops that are worth indulging your time and money in.
HERMÈS Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai
What's the vibe?
The French maison expands its footprint in India's commercial capital with a second store, where the bronze arcades that define the space are inspired by Indian palaces. Designed by Parisian architecture firm RDAI, the kaleidoscope of earthy tones, Jaipurinspired azure accents, and mosaic details creates a warm, sumptuous sanctuary for shoppers.
What's in stock?
Step inside the store in Jio World Plaza, and you're greeted by a salon where silks, fashion jewellery, home decor, perfumes, and beauty are displayed. At the centre, watches and leather goods take the spotlight, framed by bamboo marquetry walls in deep blue-an ode to Jodhpur's iconic hues. Towards the rear, men's and women's collections stand out against fabric-covered, turmeric-toned walls.
Why visit?
The windows of the store double as a series of art installations, starting with Aradhana Seth's "Faubourg in an Enchanted Forest" inspired by Gond art and Hermès objects. The final chapter, by Yashika Sugandh, pays homage to the hidden rooftop paradise in the maison's Paris store at 24 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Quite the view, inside and out.
