1. Fabulous furniture
What may have once been considered "occasional" chairs and tables have become everyday decor items. Seating and dining have evolved to focus on community, character and comfort, with soft curves and plush materials setting the scene. Vintage chairs can be re-upholstered in a fresh patterned fabric, piping can be done in a contrasting colour, while backs, arms and seats can be artfully embroidered. Seating doesn't require four legs anymore - think of loungers, tub chairs, stools, hanging chairs or rocking chairs.
The top of a table can also become a new and exciting canvas; it doesn't need to be marble or solid wood, but can be elevated with a simple modern mosaic, fresh coat of paint, new wood stain colour or even just a gorgeous tablecloth or runner. Paint the legs a complimentary shade - or, if you're buying or getting one made, consider switching out the traditional table legs for crossed, square or hairpin ones. The options are endless!
