HYUNDAI IONIQ 5

During Auto Expo 2023, Hyundai showcased its new flagship, the all-electric loniq 5. The crossover hatchback was launched with an introductory price of Rs 44.95 lakh (ex-showroom) and features a rather unconventional 'boxy' design, with neat little elements such as its striking pixel-shaped headlamps. It is offered only in the long-range rear-wheel drive variant with a 72kW battery pack, which makes 217PS of power with a (claimed) range of 631km. Hyundai claims that the loniq 5 can be topped up from 10 to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes with the help of a 350kW fast charger.

MARUTI SUZUKI JIMNY

Maruti Suzuki stole the spotlight at this year's expo, unveiling the 5-door Jimny for the Indian market. While it carries the same design and features as the hot-selling international-spec model, the extra row should nullify the space problem Indian consumers might have. Powering the Jimny is Suzuki's 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine, which makes 104PS of power and 134Nm of torque, mated to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Post-launch, the Jimny will compete against the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.

MARUTI SUZUKI FRONX

After stirring up rumours for a while, Maruti Suzuki also showcased its new Baleno-based crossover, the Fronx. Designed to look like a shrunken Grand Vitara, the Fronx gets the 1-litre booster jet engine with a mild-hybrid system. It makes 100PS of power and 148Nm of torque. Maruti will also offer the Fronx with the Baleno's 1.2-litre naturally aspirated, which makes 89PS of power and 113Nm of torque.
