LEAH PURCELL 'I'M JUST GETTING STARTED'

Not too long ago Leah Purcell was seriously entertaining the idea of quitting acting to go "clean toilets".

"I was just about to retire," she candidly tells us.

But thank goodness a voice inside Leah's head told her to hold her horses, as her career is currently going gangbusters! So much so, she now has Hollywood in her sights.

Following her acclaimed work in The Drover's Wife and The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Leah is starring in the new thriller series, High Country.

Leah, 53, tells us the project gave her the "validation" she needed to keep going.

"It's made me think, 'You know what? I can do this for another 33 years!"" Leah declares. She adds that things people have been saying about her work and about her "as a person" also inspired her to push onwards.

In High Country, Leah plays Detective Andrea Whitford, who is investigating a series of disappearances in a small town. The role is more than just a creative win for Leah. She explains that a personal element running through the plot and "the Indigenous theme" of what Andrea "doesn't know about her heritage" also drew her to the project.
