They say age is just a number, and an Aussie photographer is proving it with her unique portraits showcasing the timeless elegance of the elderly.
Shannon Smith launched her labour of love, The Golden Age Portraits, more than a year ago, and she’s since had the pleasure of providing more than 50 free photo shoots to seniors aged 80 and over. She says capturing their beauty and resilience, and celebrating their life stories is an honour.
“I lost elderly people I loved, and I started hearing stories about their lives and I thought it’s a pity we don’t talk more about this when they are here,” Shannon says from her home in Lake Macquarie, NSW.
“These portraits are an opportunity to preserve the memories of a generation that really didn’t have much but made the most of every situation they were in.
“I love dressing them up, making them feel special and most of all, hearing their incredible life stories.”
