Since the discovery of kaolin in the nearby French town Saint-Yrieix-laPerche in 1768, the city of Limoges has become synonymous with the art of porcelain, establishing itself as a centre for some of the most beautiful and coveted creations in the world.
Haviland, founded by visionary American entrepreneur David Haviland in 1842, is one of the most important porcelain producers in the city, having played a significant role in advancing its quality, artistic expression and international recognition. Deeply woven into the fabric of the maison are the most skilled designers, painters and sculptors of their time, such as Bracquemond, Dammouse, Suzannne Lalique, Gauguin, Dufy, Sandoz, Kandinsky and Dali, who have contributed to Haviland's legacy of innovation and craftsmanship. Its beautiful collections of white porcelain decorated with unique engravings and print have also graced the interiors of royal families, heads of states and the most prestigious hospitality names, including Empress Eugenie, Prince Rainier of Monaco, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Ritz Paris and Le Dorchester in London.
