A beauty REVELATION

The self-care sanctuary Nylde Hoffman and Riëtte Lategan introduced to Stellenbosch has become a sought-after location. We spoke to them about how clients and staff are equally important in their success
LEANDRI DE KOCK
A beauty REVELATION

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO START REVEL?

Riëtte Lategan: Nylde and I felt strongly about opening a salon in Stellenbosch where we could offer clients a good quality mani and pedi simultaneously in an hour while still having a luxurious experience in a beautiful setting. Often, nail bars are ’express’, where the experience is transactional and based in a mall, so we opted for a different approach. We wanted to give our clients unexpected value while still getting the basics right. Both of us are moms with busy careers, so we wanted to create a place that caters to that while being a one-stop shop for all things self-care.

WHAT HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST REWARDING ASPECTS OF OPENING YOUR DOORS?

Nylde Hoffman: In the dynamic landscape of the beauty industry, where a race to the bottom often prevails with staff overworked and underpaid, our business finds its distinctive niche in the market through two fundamental pillars. Firstly, when our customers genuinely appreciate the meticulous attention we devote to both significant and subtle aspects of our service, it fosters loyalty and sets us apart in an industry where quality is sometimes compromised. Secondly, the heartbeat of our success lies in creating a nourishing and supportive working environment for our team. Witnessing our staff thrive, grow and find happiness in their roles is immeasurable. In an industry notorious for burnout, our commitment to their well-being reduces turnover while contributing to a positive business reputation, creating a fulfilling cycle of success for our team and clientele.
