Blackett has spent the last six months in the URC and made a positive impression at the Scarlets. The 40-year-old was signed on a short-term deal in November after he was made redundant from his job as head coach at Wasps when the club ceased trading.
Blackett’s services for next season have been in high demand and after being linked with jobs at Edinburgh and Newcastle, Bath have secured his signature as a replacement for outgoing attack coach Joe Maddock.
Blackett says he can take a lot from his short spell in west Wales – even the six to seven-hour round trips from his home in the Midlands had benefits.
“Whenever you are a head coach, you are looking at the big picture stuff, and even though you will always have an eye for attack and you’ll make comments about how we are attacking, it is more of a helicopter view,” he told The Rugby Paper.
“There are certain things that I’ve wanted to look at in attack but have just not had the time to really go into detail on certain things. So it has been great that I have been able to do that. I’d like to think I am a better attack coach now than six months ago.”
Blackett says the structure of the URC season has enabled him to do more hands-on coaching.
