Codling started his role as head coach in June and the hard-working ethic and eye for detail that attracted Eddie Jones to once offer him a job with England, means that if Newcastle do ultimately fail, it won't be for a lack of endeavour.
"I don't worry about predictions, that's for other people to make. All I will say is that it is a fantastic challenge and one that I know the group are really looking forward to," said the former England lock.
"I want to create an environment where players are excited about coming to work and be challenged in lots of different ways.
