Retail sales of vehicles in India surged 12 per cent during this year's festival season over the previous year's, buoyed by robust demand for two-wheelers, according to data released on Friday by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (Fada).
A total of 4.29 million vehicles were sold during the 42-day period, compared with 3.84 million units during last year's festival season. This year, the season spanned from Navratri's start on October 3 to 15 days after Dhanteras, ending on November 13.
Two-wheelers led the pack, with 3.31 million units sold—a 14 per cent increase over last year's 2.91 million. Rural demand played a pivotal role, although Fada expressed concerns over inventory levels, cautioning that November's data could offer a more comprehensive picture.
