600 householders told 'don't drink tap water' after fuel leak warning

The warning to 616 homes in Bramley near Guildford, Surrey, followed tests by Thames Water after a historical leak from a petrol station.

Householders were told not to use their water supply for drinking, cooking or brushing their teeth, though they can continue to shower and wash their hands with it.

The notice will remain in place while further investigations are carried out, Thames Water said.

Bramley is in the South West Surrey constituency, represented by Chancellor Jeremy Hunt until Parliament was dissolved on Thursday.
