SPURS SPENT BIG TO RAISE EXPECTATIONS

Ange under pressure to feast at the top table

TOTTENHAM were fourth in the transfer spending table and that puts them under pressure to finish in the same spot in the Premier League.

Spurs have almost gone under the radar as big spenders in the market, as chairman Daniel Levy has backed another manager to get the team into the Champions League.

Anyone could see the progress Ange Postecoglou made last season but after more heavy investment the targets have been raised.

According to Soccerbase, Spurs have spent £532million on transfers in the past four seasons, topped off this summer with a deal for Dominic Solanke that could total £65m.

Of course that has been offset by some big-name departures in that time, most notably England captain Harry Kane to Bayern Munich for £90m a year ago.

In fairness, the net spend table for the past five years leaves them fourth behind Chelsea (£832m), Manchester United (£547m) and Arsenal (£469m).
