Badenoch blasts 'naive church leaders' duped by asylum seekers in bid to stay

She warned that communists, socialists and liberals have "hacked" the system to smuggle in extreme ideas harmful to Western democracies.

Speaking at a conference of rightwingers in the US, the Tory leader used the example of illegal migrant Abdul Shokoor Ezedi.

He converted to Christianity then claimed he would be persecuted if returned to Afghanistan.

Ezedi carried out multiple sex attacks in the UK, threw chemicals over a mother and her two young children in London, then drowned himself.

Mrs Badenoch said: "Over many years, we have had very naive church leaders converting people who had no interest in Christianity as a means to circumvent border control.

"This is what I mean when I say that liberalism has been hacked.
