JOE Biden sparked anger in his party after shamelessly granting his convicted son a presidential pardon as he faced up to 42 years behind bars for crimes.
Democrats slammed him after he had vowed not to involve himself in Hunter Biden's case.
The outgoing President said his son had been "singled out".
Although he believed in the justice system, he added: "Politics has infected this process, and it led to a miscarriage of justice." He said: "From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department's decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively and unfairly prosecuted." Mr Biden claimed he wrestled with his judgment and added: "Once I made this decision this weekend, there was no sense in delaying it further.
"I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision." Hunter Biden said mistakes he made during the darkest days of his drug and alcohol addiction had been "exploited to publicly humiliate and shame" his family for political sport.
