SCORES more migrants tried to cross the Channel yesterday, as people smugglers took advantage of the first calmer seas in two weeks.
It is estimated at least 400 risked their lives on the perilous journey and onlookers saw at least 10 boats which could take the figure to around 500 people.
The total number of Christmas Day crossings will be revealed in the Home Office's day-to-day count of arrivals.
