The vice president is three points clear of rival Mr Trump, thanks to older female voters, pollsters at Des Moines Register/Mediacom said.
Iowa was easily won by the Republican candidate in 2016 and 2020 and in June he had an 18-point lead over Joe Biden, who was the Democratic nominee at the time.
