LABOUR WAR ON FARMERS IS 'THREAT TO FOOD SECURITY'

The warning comes as farmers head to London to protest at inheritance tax plans in the Budget.

Chris Philp, Shadow Home Secretary, said the tax changes would be a huge blow as many are already "struggling to make ends meet".

The Tory MP claimed: "So the fact that Labour has declared war on farmers is obviously bad for farmers, but it's actually bad for all of us because it'll undermine our food security."

Up to 20 000 people will descend on the capital tomorrow to oppose plans to slap the 20% inheritance tax on farms which are worth £1million or more. They claim the policy will destroy family farms or see them broken up.

Welsh campaign group Enough Is Enough has called for a national strike and for farmers to stop producing food until the decision to impose the tax is reversed.
