Mind drugs helped kill my husband, says royal

LADY Gabriella Kingston has warned about the effects of drugs used to treat mental health problems, as a coroner concluded her husband had taken his own life.

Thomas Kingston, the husband of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent's daughter Lady Gabriella, died from a head injury. A gun was found near his body on February 25, at his parents' home in the Cotswolds.

The financier, 45, married Lady Gabriella at Windsor Castle in 2019, with Queen Elizabeth II and the late Duke of Edinburgh among the guests.

The inquest into his death at Gloucestershire Coroner's Court was told yesterday he had initially been given sertraline to treat depression and zopiclone, a sleeping tablet, by a GP at the Royal Mews Surgery after complaining of trouble sleeping following stress at work.

The practice at Buckingham Palace is used by royal household staff. Mr Kingston returned to the surgery saying they were not making him feel better so his doctor moved him to citalopram, a similar drug.
