Now Labour hikes student tuition fees

The increase, announced by Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson yesterday, is the first rise since 2017, when they were set at £9,250.

Maximum caps on fees will now be £9,535 next October, saddling students on a three-year course with an extra £855 bill.

Ms Phillipson said it was "not an easy decision", but was necessary to secure universities' financial future.
