Members of UK-Med are spending the holidays in Gaza, saving lives at the charity's two makeshift hospitals.
Anaesthetist Dr Matthew Newport, 37, is on a month-long Gaza stint until early January - his fifth such deployment in a year. He said: "Being away from family at Christmas is an active choice, but there's no pressure or guilt." Of his young daughter spending Christmas without him at home in Ramsbottom, Gtr Manchester, he said: "She's very much aware and has grasped the idea of helping poorly people.
