THE rivalry between Mercedes and Red Bull was well and truly reignited as George Russell and Max Verstappen spent much of yesterday taking brutal swipes at each other.
It began in the FIA press conference when Verstappen accused his rival of being dishonest in trying to get the stewards to penalise him last Sunday.
The Red Bull racer said: "In my whole career I've never experienced what I experienced in the stewards' room in Qatar. For me, that was really unacceptable.
"I never expected someone actually try to get someone a penalty, lying about doing what I was doing." In response, Russell alleged that Verstappen had made a threat of violence against him ahead of the race.
