Pen and paper exams could end by 2030

THE writing may be on the wall for the use of pen and paper in A-level and GCSE exams.

The UK's largest exam board wants many of the tests to be offered on screen by 2030 but regulator Ofqual is concerned about fairness for all pupils, including those less able to get online.

Pearson exam board already offers computer science digitally and is aiming to have both history and business studies GCSEs on screen by 2027.

It will also seek approval from Ofqual to offer English and English literature.
