KIERAN TIERNEY won't have a problem with people questioning his performance against Germany.

Like every other Scotland player in the Allianz Arena on Friday night, he knew it wasn't good enough.

But in terms of his character and mentality to recover from it and go again? When it comes to Tierney, that should never be up for debate.

No one will have been hurting more than the Arsenal defender after the 5-1 battering on Euro 2024's opening night. Tierney is as patriotic and as committed to the cause as they come.

You saw that in Munich after a couple of minutes when he let out a roar after a crunching tackle earned Scotland a goal-kick.

Unfortunately for Tierney and everyone else in a dark blue shirt, that was about as competitive as we got in the entire game.

The ex-Celtic man was devastated at Steve Clarke's side's capitulation.

But that doesn't mean he's not absolutely convinced that - along with himself - there are proper leaders in the squad who will ensure there is no hangover in Cologne on Wednesday against Switzerland.

As he tried to get his head around their German disaster, Tierney said: "The most important thing is nothing is done yet. The next two games are massive and we know what we have to do.

"We've also got the quality to do it. It's just about showing it on the pitch. And there's no doubt we have the characters to ensure this feeling doesn't linger.
