RORY MCILROY insists he's as close as he's ever been to winning a fifth Major as he gears up for another US Open assault.

But the Northern Irishman reckons even if he fails to land another of the big prizes, he can still retire a happy man.

The last of his four Majors came at The Open a decade ago but McIlroy finished second in the US version behind Wyndham Clark in Los Angeles a year ago.

Now the 2011 champion hopes to go one better at Pinehurst No.2, the iconic and challenging course designed by Donald Ross.
