A TESCO scheme aims to donate millions of meals to families facing hardship this winter, with the help of customers.The retailer's 12th annual Tesco Winter Food Collection involves shoppers buying pre-packed food donation bags containing much needed, long-life food items in-store.The cost is between £2 and £3. Tesco will then give them to food bank charity Trussell and food redistribution charity FareShare.Last year, customers donated more than two million meals and the retailer hopes to top that this time.All large stores already offer the bags but next week 86 of Tesco's largest Express stores will also stock them.The scheme runs in Express stores Monday to Saturday, and in large stores from Thursday to Saturday. The most needed items include powdered milk, tinned meat and fish.Research from Trussel shows that almost a quarter of under-fours are facing hunger.Ken Murphy, Tesco group chief executive, said: "Our partners tell us they've seen more families needing help and expect demand to increase this winter, so we're encouraging customers to donate what they can to our Winter Food Collection."Pre-packed donation bags make it easy to make a big difference to someone else's Christmas."
