LEE CARSLEY says the FA are RIGHT to consider appointing a foreigner as the next England manager.
Yesterday it emerged FA chiefs have made contact with Pep Guardiola about the possibility of taking over the Three Lions hot seat at the end of the season.
Carsley was made interim boss when Gareth Southgate announced his tenure was over - and has two more games to state his case for getting the job on a permanent basis.
But the man who guided the Under21s to a Euro Championships triumph believes the next manager doesn't have to be English, despite appearing to jeopardise his own chances of the top job with his comments.
The FA are expected to make a decision after next month's international games and Carsley has urged them to cast the net far and wide in a bid to get the best man for the job.
Thomas Tuchel is another being linked with the job and Carsley said: "No, definitely not (does the candidate have to be English). It's important that the best candidate gets the job.
"We've seen in the past that we've had different nationalities coach the teams. We'd be putting ourselves in a corner if we didn't and we didn't open our minds a bit.
