LABOUR has vowed to ban trail hunting and bring in tougher penalties for culprits flouting the fox hunting ban.New figures released on Boxing Day - one of the biggest days in the hunting calsuggest fox hunting endar is still rife across Britain.Since the beginning of August, 186 foxes were reported being pursued by hunts with 220 reports relating to suspected illegal hunting incidents.There were also 553 cases of hunt havoc - where the behaviour of a hunting party causes nuisance, distress, danger or damage to people, animals or property.The figures were collated by animal welfare charity the League Against Cruel Sports, which says they show why stronger fox hunting laws are needed. This is despite it being nearly 20 years since the Hunting Act came into force.The group's Chris Luffingham said it hides "a world of brutality." A Department for Environment spokesman said it is "committed to a ban on trail hunting, which is being exploited as a smokescreen to cruelly kill foxes and hares".
