There's a new route we discovered while testing the new Toyota Taisor's real-world fuel efficiency—it's longer, you have to pay more toll, but saves you both fuel and time, and takes you via two expressways.
The regular route
It's the old NH 1 now called NH 44 (via Panipat, Karnal, Ambala, to Chandigarh). Toll charges are ₹380, but due to heavy traffic, we took 7 hours to cover 280 km. The Taisor, powered by 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine (₹10.55-13.03 lakh, depending on variant), returned 15 km/litre.
