World leaders mourn loss of 'a true friend'

Tributes poured in from across the world on Friday for former prime minister Manmohan Singh for his major contributions towards India and its international ties.

NEW DELHI:

French President Emmanuel Macron described Singh as an ally to France as he condoled his death. "India has lost a great man, and France a true friend, in the person of Dr Manmohan Singh. He had devoted his life to his country. Our thoughts are with his family and the people of India," he said in a post on X.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also expressed his condolences and called Singh an "outstanding statesman".
