GURUGRAM: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has proposed the development of a 100 mld (million litres per day) water treatment plant in Kasan village, Manesar, to cater to the growing water demand in rapidly urbanising rural and urban areas, officials said.
The plant, to be located 800 metres from the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway, will be fed water from the Mewat feeder canal, which is proposed alongside the expressway, they added.
Abhinav Verma, executive engineer of GMDA's infrastructure division (II), said, "We are planning to build a 100 mld water treatment plant and a 300 mld storage facility in Kasan to supply water to urban areas and villages in Manesar. We have requested the district administration to provide us with 50 acres of land for the project and have received approval from the irrigation department for an outlet from the Mewat feeder canal near Kasan."
Officials said that the timeline for the plant being operational will be cleared once the land is handed over from Manesar district administration.
Currently, Manesar relies on the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) for water supply through a 50 MLD plant. However, most villages depend on tube wells operated by the public health department or villagers themselves.
Residents in these villages have been demanding canal-based water supply, GMDA officials added.
According to GMDA officials, the authority plans to use the new plant to supply canal water to villages in sectors 58 to 115 and eventually expand coverage to villages such as Manesar, Khoh, Kasan, and Nagarpur Kasan.
